Blue Parrot 5th Avenue Property Description

The Blue Parrot Hotel on 5th Avenida is one of three properties operated under the well-known Blue Parrot brand. Each of the three is intended to serve the needs of different clientele: the Beach Club caters to sun worshippers, the Suites are meet the needs of families and executives, and the Hotel on 5th Avenida is host to the young partygoers who flock to Playa del Carmen.

As with many other places in Playa, one simply would never know from judging by the modest exterior that a magnificent hotel is tucked away inside. As you enter the hotel however, you may be surprised to discover a tropical garden complete with palms, mangrove trees, wooden bridges, and grass thatched huts. At night, this area is modestly lit with candles and string lights, transforming it into a nighttime paradise, home of the Playasia gourmet sushi restaurant.

The vibe here is romantic, chic, sophisticated, and young. The owners, who hail from Chicago, have brought with them a sharp eye for urban design that is rare in Playa. The rooms are smartly decorated with a blend of high-end furniture imported from the United States, bamboos, and local materials. Vaulted ceilings and polished stone floors give the rooms a clean modern feel. Many suites have opulent open showers with rain drop showerheads. And of course, the hotel rooms are well maintained and meticulously clean.

The rooms have safe deposit boxes as well as minibars, but the beverages tend to run on the expensive side. Wireless internet access is available, but we did experience numerous problems connecting to it. Laundry and room service are available, but be forewarned that the food served at the hotel is very expensive (although very delicious!).

The staff is friendly and very eager to please, but housekeeping can be inconsistent. Tipping the house keeping staff well on the first day would probably not be a bad idea.

This hotel is well-suited for single partygoers and couples looking for a romantic getaway. Families and wedding parties would be better off booking rooms at the Blue Parrot Beach Club or the Blue Parrot Suites.

The Blue Parrot Hotel is located on the corner of 5th Avenida and 12th Calle, in the heart of the busy downtown nightlife just steps away from popular nightspots such as the Hotel Deseo, Tequila Barrel, the Beer Bucket, Bali, and Om.

Be sure to book early - the hotel has only 18 rooms and has recently become a very popular property in the area, so it is unlikely that you'll be able to book a room with less than two weeks notice, especially during the high season (December to May). Both suites and studios are available. Suites are larger and cost about $50 more per night, but you usually have to book them months in advance.
